Apple recently temporarily pulled Sniffies, a location-based cruising app for gay, bisexual and bi-curious men from its App Store due to “ongoing content restrictions.” Users who previously installed it can continue using it; however new downloads are no longer available. YouTube.com, En Wikipedia.org, InstaGram.com Out.com and Advocate are some sources where this information may be found.
Launched in 2018, Sniffies stands out from other dating apps by featuring an innovative map-based interface with highlighted cruising spots and explicit profile images. In March 2025, it debuted its native iOS version featuring a Safer Work Mode to meet Apple guidelines; nonetheless, despite these efforts to comply, the app was taken off of Apple Store.
This development has incited outrage within the queer community, many interpreting it as part of a trend towards tech companies restricting adult content and negatively affecting LGBTQ+ individuals disproportionately in regions where digital spaces provide essential spaces for connection and safety. Advocates maintain that such actions harm LGBTQ+ people disproportionately.
Sniffies has confirmed to wired.com that its core web app remains fully operational and continues to deliver an unfiltered experience for users, as promised. They are currently exploring next steps while remaining committed to offering the best experience possible for their community.
